Just read Horace McCoy's NO POCKETS IN A SHROUD and loved it.
One of the things I liked best about it was its closing line:
"Then the top of his head flew off, and he fell face
downwards across the garbage can, trying to get his fingers
up to hold his nose."
It's my current favorite closing line. Whatever hard-boiled
is, that line is it. What are some other great closing
lines?
Later...Kip
